Praise be the Lord for the John Piper’s books, CD’s, and DVD’s donated to our ministry by Desiring God through the efforts of Pastor Alex Hong and friends at Christian Fellowship Bible Church, California. Pastor Hong visited SMO last year to teach and preach God’s Word. He saw the need of our workers and students here of good quality Christian books as a means to equip us with God’s Word. When he returned to the US, he shared the burden to his congregation and his friends of the need of local Christians here of good Bible study tools. Many responded and months after, the materials were shipped to the Philippines where SMO and other churches and organizations have benefited.

SMO Acquires 3-Hectare Property
Finally, after 34 years, Student Missionary Outreach has acquired a 3-hectare land property in Negros Occidental; the Promised Land we have all been waiting for.
SMO National Director, Nenita S. del Mundo, signed the contract deal amounting to Php1.5 million (US$63,870), with the original land owners and their lawyer, and also witnessed by SMO Bacolod Coordinator, Pastor Elmer A. Genol. The official document signing took place on August 12, 2011 at the Depasucat Law Firm office.
The property is located at Barangay Pandanon-Silos, Murcia, Negros Occidental, which is a 40-minute drive away from Bacolod City and is accessible by commercial bus transport.
It took almost two years for the search of the “Promise Land”, after SMO received a one-time generous financial donation for the purpose of a land property purchase. The search started under the helm of the late former SMO National Director, Pastor Renato S. del Mundo, and finally finished by his wife Nenita.
God’s provision came at a significant time in August when the ministry celebrates its 34th year in youth ministry and the first death anniversary of Pastor del Mundo. Indeed, the land acquisition was a fitting monument of God’s faithfulness and a reminder of the humble servant leadership of Pastor del Mundo.
The property, temporarily called, The SMO Training and Recreation Youth Center, will be the future site of the SMO Bible Training Institute. It will also be developed into a conference and camp site, and source of livelihood projects for the ministry.
“The Promise Land” serves as an encouragement to the SMO missionaries and student leaders that the “field is still wide and ripe for harvest” and that the Lord’s work is yet to continue further until He comes again.
A New Van for the Lord’s Work
Dear Ministry Partners of SMO:
Finally, after many years of praying, the ministry has purchased (in cash) a Mitsubishi 17-seater van last January 20, 2011. This vehicle will be used for God’s glory through official ministry functions like evangelism, discipleship, trainings, conferences, as well as to transport our visiting guests, including our local and foreign supporters, when requested.
A big share of the amount was loaned from the internal fund of SMO. The Board thought it wise that instead of having to loan the money through a bank or a lending company which would entail monthly payment interest, we will instead borrow money from the Building fund and purchase the vehicle outright.
We are hoping to pay what was loaned from the Building fund within 5 years. Specifically, we will need to raise at least 15,000 pesos (333 US dollars) every month for five years. This will cover payment not only to what was loaned, but also to set aside fund for insurance and maintenance of the vehicle.
Brethren, would you consider helping us raise our monthly goal? You may either send a monthly, quarterly, or yearly commitment, or a one-time gift for the ministry specifically mentioning “VEHICLE FUND”.

SUMMER YOUTH CAMPS
SMO Youth Camps were held in the cities of Legazpi and Gen. Santos on May 27-30, 2009. Legazpi Coordinator, Pastor Pedro Gil “Bats” Batalla said the camp drew several youth attendees to Christ. Some of the youths from Naga (under Pastor Ed Santonia and Art Nealega) also joined the camp.
Joan, one of the campers, said that the camp brought her to a deep commitment to God and His Word. Another camper, Bianca, said that the games, aside from being fun, taught her group the importance of being united in fulfilling certain tasks, but more importantly, the camp strengthened her faith in God.
Another camp was also held in Gen. Santos City in Mindanao. This was organized by SMO missionaries Pastor Ener Gamolo, Rev. Samuel Salomon, and Pastor Noel Talisay. SMO-BTI Dean of Academics, Pastor Elmer Genol preached during the camp and held special meetings with the missionaries.
BAPTISM
Lifespring Fundamental Baptist Church in Bacolod City baptized six young people who are involved in SMO Bacolod. They were: Brylle Flores, Raumbert Emil Dula, Alvin Creg Sabino, Generiza Rapas, Llanie Bantad, and Monica Jill Salvador. They were baptized on April 4, 2009.
Alvin, one of the baptized young people, is making himself useful in the church being involved in music ministry and visitations. He is also active in inviting his classmates to SMO for Bible study.
SMO has played an active part in channeling students to local churches of like-minded faith, knowing that new believers grow healthy in a church setting. Lifespring is one of the many churches in the Philippines that have benefitted in the campus work of SMO. At present, SMO’ers play key leadership roles in this church.
